Don’t let the summer heat fool you. Tucson is bursting with energy all season long. Whether you're a long-time local or just getting to know Southern Arizona, there’s no shortage of ways to stay cool, connect with nature, and make the most of the desert.

Here are five of our favorite things to do in Tucson this summer:

1. Take a Sunset Hike in Sabino Canyon

The desert comes alive in the evening. Sabino Canyon offers breathtaking sunset views, saguaro silhouettes, and cooler temps after 6 PM. Bring water, a headlamp, and your camera. Golden hour here is pure magic.

2. Explore the Cool Caves of Colossal Cave or Kartchner Caverns

Want to escape the heat completely? Head underground. Both Colossal Cave and Kartchner Caverns stay in the 70s year-round and offer guided tours filled with history and natural beauty. Great for kids, guests, or an afternoon date.

3. Catch a Monsoon Show

There’s nothing like a Tucson sky during monsoon season. Find a safe lookout spot (like Gates Pass or Saguaro National Park East) and watch nature put on a show. Just make sure to stay weather aware and enjoy from a great distance.

4. Cool Off with a Local Craft Cocktail or Mocktail

From downtown Tucson to Oro Valley, our bar scene shines in the summer. Check out The Delta, Owls Club, Highwire or even head to Hotel Congress for a classic. If a mocktail is more your style, check out Prep and Pastry, Charro Vida, Amelia’s Mexican Kitchen or True Food Kitchen to name a few.

5. Spend a Morning at the Tucson Botanical Gardens

Start your day early and take in the lush summer blooms, butterflies, and shaded walking paths. The gardens often host rotating exhibits and events that make every visit feel fresh.

Tucson’s heat is real and so is the joy of summer here when you lean into it with the right plans, the right people, and the right place to call home.
